Trying to design a 9V 3A linear power supply gusy can you help me? I considered the 7809 but it can only candle 1.5Amps. I tried to cascade 3 parallel TO-220, increasing the filtering caps (x3), in a simulation and I got quite good results. Is this a good idea in real life? If not what do you suggest. I also plan to limit the current at 2.7A maybe someone can give me some hints. Thank you in advance.

Have you considered the LM350T?  Guaranteed 3A output at variable voltage. You could use a trimmer to set it for 9V.

The data sheet has adequate example circuits.  LM350T Datasheet.
